Gerard is a Consultant Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic surgeon who has worked in Galway University Hospital since 2023. He is a fully accredited plastic surgeon with specialist registration on the Irish Medical Council. He is a member of the Irish Association of Plastic Surgeons.
Originally from Co. Roscommon, Gerard underwent medical training in Galway, followed by higher surgical training throughout Ireland. He went on to complete his fellowship in Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital before returning to the West of Ireland.
Gerard graduated from the National University of Ireland, Galway, in 2014 and completed his internship in the West of Ireland. He then completed surgical training throughout Ireland, culminating in obtaining his FRCS (Plast). During this time, he also completed a postgraduate Master's in Surgery, awarded by NUIG, and a postgraduate certificate in medical education.
Gerard has been actively involved in research throughout his career. He has presented at both national and international meetings and actively attends conferences, both nationally and internationally, to maintain his professional knowledge. He has completed a postgraduate Master's in Surgery through NUIG
Gerard completed fellowship training at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital, specialising in skin cancer and reconstructive surgery following cancer resection, particularly concerning head and neck cancer and breast cancer.
